About Self-Paced Learning
What is self-paced learning? Here are a couple of definitions:
"Learning that is undertaken asynchronously, such as from CD-ROM or over the Internet without an instructor, where the user controls the flow of learning material."
"Education in which the learner studies at their own pace without a fixed starting date or regularly scheduled assignment completion dates in common with other students enrolled in the same program, however there may be a fixed completion timeframe."
It's now a proven fact that learning has less to do with sitting in a classroom or attending lectures or labs, than it does with an individual's quest or yearning for knowledge. Take any subject, be it history, physics or needlepoint, the first thing the student picks up is a book. That book contains the knowledge but learning is more than simply reading the book. It requires comprehension and for most, the desire to put that knowledge to practical use.
In addition to having the desire to learn it’s important that the learner is provided material that adapts to his or her learning style and ability. The pitfalls of most traditional brick and mortar schools is the old idea that every student has to fit into a pre-defined mold and be able to learn at the same pace, the same level of understanding right along with the rest of the class. That never did work.
Self-Paced learning allows individuals to proceed through the study materials at a pace that fits their ability, time frame and learning style. With platform learning, the one we use to teach, if you need to re-read a chapter four times in order to answer the quiz questions correctly, fine! You move forward just as you are able. By the same token, if you process material faster than others, you aren't being held back by the teacher or the rest of the class -- you can move forward without them.
Self-Paced learning requires dedication and discipline. You have to want the knowledge, recognize the benefits that this new knowledge will have in your life, and be willing to put forth the effort, without a teacher standing over your shoulder or holding your hand. If you have the desire and dedication to learn, and the discipline to pace yourself, you will save yourself a great deal of time and money too! Without the need for traditional classrooms, overhead, and instructor salaries, our e-Learning provides the same knowledge and far more experience than you will get anywhere at a way lower cost.
With our Medical Coding eTraining Course:
The most reasonable option is the eBook course provided as a Adobe PDF file downloadable or on a CD-ROM. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is required, but you probably already have it on your computer and if you don't, it's a free download from the Adobe website. The very latest instructional design methods have been incorporated and mirror the content we have used to train thousands of healthcare professionals for decades.
Here are the Facts:
Studies now show that people can customize the learning material to their own needs, that adults who have more control over their learning process can better understand the material, leading to a 60% faster learning curve, compared to instructor-led training. The delivery of content in small units, called "chunks," contributes further to a more lasting learning effect. The e-learning experience enhances the retention rate by 25 at least 50%. The study found that e-learners enjoyed the learning more, and spent more time on class work, understood the material better, and performed, on average, 20% better than students who were taught in the traditional classroom.
